Nola Grubhouse

Bringing the New Orleans experience to the West Coast.

Role

Brand identity design, including ordering system.

Team

Duration

November 2015 – July 2016

From coast to coast.

The idea of bringing the experience of New Orleans to the West Coast of California sprung from the owner of the restaurant. He envisioned the restaurant to not only serve Cajun-style cuisine — not limited to crayfish and blue crabs — but during late nights, the vibe of New Orleans comes to life through smooth jazz.

Our goal was to attract a target audience and to develop an identity for Nola Grubhouse.

Background

This project presented itself with not only an understanding of brand development and identity — it also captured how that identity gets used interactively, such as in an ordering system. Here I learned:

Experience is defined through a vision. From vision comes figuring out how the brand is going to be translated.

Cohesive branding and nomenclature help tell a story. Presenting a consistent brand in words and visuals helps bring this restaurant to life.

Personality and culture are exemplified through type and color. The psychology of type and color showcased the look and feel of this restaurant.

Question

How do I bring the experience to my hometown?
